If a service-related injury has left you unable to maintain steady gainful employment, there are several benefits options potentially available to you from the Department of Veterans Affairs, one of which is called “Veterans compensation benefits”.
How Do I Qualify for Veterans Compensation Benefits?
In order to be eligible for veterans compensation benefits, there are 4 criteria that must be met:
- You must not have received a “Dishonorable Discharge” when leaving military service,
- You must be able to prove your current disability with supporting evidence from doctors and other sources,
- You must be able to demonstrate that your disability was caused by an injury or illness that occurred during your service,
- And you must show that there is at least a 50-50 chance that your disability was a direct result of your military service.
The VA will award benefits of up to $3100/month based on the severity of your disability, the number of dependents (spouse, children, dependent parents) you provide for, and several other factors. Learn more about veterans compensation benefits in this video.
