The University of Nebraska Medical Center has a new laser to help treat eye problems. This laser, the only of its kind in the the United States is located on the campus in Omaha. Diabetic retinopathy is a complication of diabetes that affects the blood vessels in the eye and can cause blindness.This new device delivers a larger amount of laser in a short period of time..UNMC researchers plan to study the new laser effectiveness compared those currently in use. The research will study whether the new laser causes less damage to the retina.
