Is Current Medical Care Important In a Disability Case?

If you are applying for Social Security disability benefits you should get regular treatment from your doctor. Avoid large gaps in your treatment, because it can be very difficult to prove that your condition is serious if you have several months in a row without treatment. Additionally, detailed and up-to-date medical records are absolutely critical to winning your case for Social Security disability benefits. You need current medical records and that means you need to see your doctor on a regular basis. After slogging through the complex and frustrating disability process, the last thing you want is a lack of records torpedoing your case.

Try to see your doctor at least once every couple of months, even if it's just to follow up.  Be honest with your doctor. Don’t be embarrassed about your condition. Let your doctor know all the problems you are struggling with.
