August 14, 1935 marked the beginning of the Social Security Administration. With Social Security's recent 78th birthday, it is important to reflect on how vital of a lifeline Social Security is for America's retired, widows, dependents of deceased, and the disabled. Over 62 million Americans rely on a Social Security payment every month. While Social Security provides the much needed financial support for many Americans, it is not a program that the disabled get rich from. The average monthly Disability Insurance Benefits check is $1,129.44. It is important that Congress and the President do not make any cuts to this vital lifeline for Americans.
