A new study conducted by reviewing the medical records of patients in Tennessee demonstrates that there is a three fold increase in the risk of type 2 diabetes in adolescent patients diagnosed with developmental disabilities. The study reviewed the use of Risperdal, Seroquel, Abilify and Zyprexa in adolescents and found a significant increase in diabetes in the first year of use. Some experts argue that these significant side effects should dictate that these drugs should not be used and if used should be monitored with extreme care. As with any medical condition talk with your doctor before making any changes or discontinuing the use of any medications.
