Omaha Newspaper Reports Anti-Depressant Cymbalta Increasingly Used for Chronic Pain Relief will become generic in late 2013

The drug Cymbalta,scientific name duloxetine, has long been approved for depression, anxiety, diabetic neuropathy and fibromyalgia. In 2010 it was approved for use to treat chronic pain. The Omaha World Hearld in a front page article reported that the patent was expiring at the end of 2013. This means that a generic version of the drugs should be available next year. This will mean reduced cost for this drug and wider affordabilty for the disabled poor. The newspaper reporter interviewed several Omaha and Lincoln pain specialists who praised Cymbalta as an effective drug for chronic pain. Many of these same physicans reported that their patients suffered few side effects.
