The Miss Amazing Pageant is a local event that was started in Omaha, Nebraska in November 2007 by Jordan Somer. The pageant is for girls and young women with physical and mental disabilities. Since 2007, this local event has gone national with 25 states now holding a Miss Amazing Pageant. This weekend, August 30, 2013, there will be the first national pageant at the Ramada Plaza Hotel ballroom in Omaha, Nebraska. The program is broken up into seven age divisions ranging from 5 years of age to 35 years of age. The contestants compete in three of four offered areas of competition for the pageant: interview; introduction, evening wear, and the talent showcase. According to the organization's website, boys with physical and mental disabilities are not left out either. They can participate as an escort for the young ladies onto the stage and will be awarded a metal for their participation. In promoting giving back to the community, the entry fee to the contest is 5 cans of food that will be donated to charity. This is a wonderful event for a great cause and I happy that it started here in Omaha, Nebraksa.
