Glenn and Jessie Close Speak At Community Alliance Event in Omaha

Jessie Close spoke of her struggle with bipolar disorder and alcohol addiction. Her talk to the 700 people in attendance was inspiring to all.This annual event  raises funds for Community Alliance and raises awareness to fight the stigma of mental illness. Jessie Close spoke candidly about her thoughts of suicide and her hospitalizations.Her description of her life with the highs and lows of bipolar disorder was both funny at times and frank. She praised National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) for the programs that it provided  to her and her son, especially the family to family program. She spoke about her son Kaelin who lives with schizophrenia According to Jessie, "Families owe to their mentally ill relatives to get over the shame and do something about it." Glenn Close spoke of her foundation Bring Change2 Mind which advocates for removing the stigma associated with mental illness.Cuddigan Law was a bronze sponsor of the event.
