Omaha SSDI / SSI Attorney

It can be difficult for older workers with disabilities to transition into other fields of employment. The Social Security Administration (SSA) understands this fact. As a result, special eligibility rules apply to people who are 50 or older. Although these rules are generally more favorable for applicants, getting approved for Social Security benefits is by no means a certainty. Hiring an experienced disability lawyer gives you the best chance to obtain the benefits you need. Tim Cuddigan has helped thousands of people across eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa. Our law firm can help you prepare a complete, persuasive case for benefits.

Social Security Rules for Older Workers

If you are between the ages of 50 to 54 are now medically limited to sedentary work, but have not held sedentary work positions in the past, you may be eligible for disability benefits. Sedentary work is work that is done mostly in the seated position or lifting is limited to 10 pounds. Social Security rules are even more favorable for those 55 or older. If you are 55 years old or older and have not held light or sedentary work positions in the past, you may also be eligible for disability benefits. Light work may involve standing but the limiting component is limited to 20 pounds up to 1/3 of the day.
